The Airport Site consists of more than 2.2 million square feet of floorspace and houses the company headquarters, engineering, manufacturing, final assembly and delivery functions. Half of the Airport Site -- designated AF Plant 44 -- is owned by the Air Force and operated by Hughes; the other half consists of Hughes-leased buildings. HMSC Airport Site In 1994, HMSC also leased 575,000 square feet at the Rita Road Site in Tucson to house support functions, laboratory and depot facilities, and its shipping and receiving activities. The site is approximately 12 miles southeast of the Airport Site in a former IBM complex now owned by the University of Arizona.
